More About WCRCWCRC welcomes all women touched by any type of cancer.
As an independent, grassroots nonprofit organization, 75% of our funding comes from
individuals. The remaining 25% we receive through grants and corporate contributions. Our
programs include a toll-free and local telephone counseling, referral and support line; a
lending library; a quarterly newsletter; several support groups; and a free bodywork and
massage program called Caring Hands Touch. We work in alliance with several other
women's and health organizations on a local and national level.
In addition to an information, referral and
counseling line, we have many other unique programs including:
- Caring Hands Touch, a free massage and
bodywork program for women with cancer and their partners.
- Holistic Health Directory, designed to
help women with cancer explore the holistic therapy options available in Minnesota.
- Environmental Activism (EAG), an advocacy
group working to educate our community about the links between cancer and the environment
on both a personal and community level.
In 1996, WCRC, in coalition with 32 other
grassroots organizations, spearheaded the first conference of its kind on cancer and the
environment. WCRC is part of a larger movement committed to challenging discrimination
that exists in the various cancer establishments and to empower women to be active and
informed in the healing process.
