-- Changing through CancerA video about cancer, nature and healing
Six women, cancer survivors, talk about facing serious
illness and mortality. With intimacy, intensity and humor, they share the impact cancer
has had on their lives, and bring a message of living life fully, about being human, and
mortal, and joyous. In individual interviews and campfire conversation, they offer
perspective to anyone whose life has been touched by serious illness.
"This is very different from other cancer
films I've seen. It doesn't have the smell of the hospital all over it. A very poetic
piece, visually and in words. It's not just for cancer survivors, but for anyone who wants
to think about how to live."
-- Marlina Gonzalez, former assistant curator
of film and video at Walker Gallery, Minneapolis
"I was deeply moved by these ordinary women talking
with such intimacy about their experiences with cancer. This is a truly beautiful movie --
these amazing conversations juxtaposed with breath-taking images of the natural
world."
-- Martha Boesing, playwright and actor
"I've always had a connection with nature.
After being ill, it's a comfort to feel part of the continuity of life, part of something
larger than myself."
"There are so many very healthy --
physically healthy -- people walking around who are just-dead. And I don't want to be dead
before my time." -- Betty
"I don't think I'd want to go through
cancer again! But it has enriched my life immensely." -- Julia
"Well, I am not a nature person...but
after my experiences, I came back and I quit my job. I ended some relationships that were
unhealthy. I felt I could take charge of my life." -- Joanie
"In some ways, the experience of being in the
wilderness makes me less afraid of death. You're more aware of the natural flow of
life." -- Barbra
