Appreciation

WCRC has been privileged to walk alongside hundreds of women as they encounter cancer with courage and dignity. Here's a sampling of what some of these women have experienced at WCRC.

Transformation

I walked in the WCRC office one afternoon after having just come from an appointment with a gynecologist who recommended a biopsy and then a hysterectomy for ovarian cysts. One year earlier, almost to the day, I had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The WCRC represents women having a say in their own healing. While at WCRC, I was asked questions no one had asked me before: "What do you want to do?" Getting the support to maintain some gumption in the midst of a crisis to make one's healing her own. A year later, I became a volunteer support group facilitator for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. In the past few years, I've seen this process happen repeatedly -- where women take charge of their own physical, psychological and spiritual healing. It's quite an honor to witness this transformation.

I wish to thank WCRC for being so extremely helpful in providing referrals to other women who have had the same type of surgery so that I could make a more informed decision. You also provided me with a wealth of information about treatment options to pass on to my sister, including exploring alternative treatments, available not only in Minnesota but also in different parts of the country. WCRC excels in educating about environmental carcinogenic toxins in the air, water, food supply and other products and services, and then offering information regarding alternatives that are safe to use. Of all the cancer resource services nationally known and available, I found that I received the most comprehensive and up-to-date information in many areas from the Women's Cancer Resource Center in Minneapolis. I will always be indebted to you!!

Having always been healthy people, we were naíve about the medical system and hospitals. Now we read the WCRC newsletter cover to cover the day it arrives, and our awareness of the social, political, and environmental issues surrounding cancer has been heightened. As soon as we get our energy back, we might become cancer activists yet! If cancer enters your life, you should be as lucky as we have been to have the help of WCRC.
